Instructions:
Step 1: Find what you need
Gather your supplies and materials.
Step 2: Begin crocheting the rose
Create a slip knot with the red yarn and tighten it on your crochet hook.
Chain 50.
Add a single crochet into each chain across, starting with the 2nd chain from the hook.
Chain 4 (counts as 1 double crochet and 2 chains) and insert a double crochet into the first stitch (right next to the chain 4).
Chain 1, skip the next 2 stitches, and insert a double crochet into the 3rd stitch.
Chain 2 and insert a double crochet into the same stitch (a V-stitch).
Repeat the same pattern (chain 1, double crochet into the 3rd stitch, chain 2, double crochet into the same stitch) until the end.
End your row with a single double crochet into the last stitch.
Step 2: Finish crocheting the rose
Insert a single crochet into the first chain 1 space from the last row.
Insert 8 double crochet into the chain 2 space, between the double crochet from the last row.
Repeat the last two steps (single crochet into chain 1 space, 8 double crochet into chain 2 space) 7 more times, for a total of 8.
Insert a single crochet into the chain 1 space.
Insert 12 double crochet into the chain 2 space.
Repeat the last two steps (single crochet into chain 1 space, 12 double crochet into chain 2 space) to the end — 7 more times.
Cut your yarn and tie it off.
Step 3: Sew the rose into shape
Thread a 12 inch piece of red yarn onto a yarn needle.
Tie the yarn to the right side of the rose (the side opposite the tails). Roll the rose into shape, sewing through the bottom after each fold.
Tie all the ends to each other and then cut off the tails.
Step 4: Crochet the leaves
Create a slip knot with green yarn and tighten it on your hook.
Chain 10.
Insert the following stitches into each chain across, starting with the 2nd chain from the hook:
Slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch.
Cut and tie off the yarn, leaving a 6 inch tail.
Repeat all of step 4 two more times for a total of 3 leaves.
Step 5: Make the rose stem
Cut a 16 inch piece of gardening wire (about 20 gauge).
Fold the wire in half.
Use pliers to twist the wire together, leaving a bit of a gap at the folded end.
Insert green yarn into the bottom gap and then twist/wrap the yarn, covering the bottom of the wire.
Begin wrapping the yarn around the wire
Continue wrapping the yarn around the wire until almost the end, leaving about 1/2 inch exposed wire.
Cut and secure the yarn. You can tie it into place or use pliers to squish the yarn between the wire.
Step 6: Assemble the rose
Sew one of the leaves onto the bottom of the rose using the long tail.
Sew on the other two leaves, and then tie and cut the tails.
Add a generous amount of hot glue to the bottom center of the rose.
Push the wire end of the stem into the glue, attaching it to the rose.
Wrap the tail around the base of the stem, into the glue, or simply cut it off.
Your crochet rose is complete!
Helpful Tips:
- The pattern is meant to roll, so don’t worry about your work curling in on itself. This rose is made from a long strip with a scalloped edge that gets folded/rolled to create a beautiful flower shape.
- Make a crochet rose in red, pink, white, or any colour of your choice! Or use variegated yarn to create a rose that changes colour from the center to the outer petals.

How long does a crochet rose take to make?
It takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour to make a crochet rose, including assembly time. To just crochet the flower top and roll it together takes between 30 to 45 minutes.
What size crochet rose does this pattern make?
This pattern makes a rose that has a diameter of about 3-1/2 inches. The flower itself is 2 inches tall, and each leaf is about 2 inches long.
The rose stem length will vary (based on how much you twist the wire and how much you push it into the bottom of the rose), but ours ended up being just over 6 inches long.
What can I do with a crochet rose?
These crochet roses look awesome set in a small vase on the mantel or used as part of a bridal bouquet.
If you leave off the stem you can attach the rose (with or without petals) to a bag, throw pillow, or headband. Or attach the crochet rose to a pin backing to create a crochet brooch!
And if you make a smaller rose it would look super cute attached to a hairclip!
It’s so fun to make a crochet rose! These handmade blooms are so cute, and they’re perfect for wedding or anniversary decor. Make this stash busting project and create flowers with delicate petals that will never wilt or fade.
