WWE SmackDown Results: After Taking Out Roman Reigns, The Bloodline Defends Gold (2024)

The Capital One Arena in Washington, DC is starting to fill up for tonight's episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, and we're bringing you live results.

The new Bloodline is riding high after leaving Roman Reigns laying on the mat at the end of last week's episode of the blue brand. A returning Jacob Fatu can get the credit for that one, and he figures to play a huge role in the faction's WWE Tag Team Championship defense against The Street Profits tonight.

Can Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins score a huge upset?

The big tag team fracas isn't the only title match scheduled for tonight. WWE United States Champion, LA Knight, will put his gold at stake against Santos Escobar. Can Knight avoid having his title slip away so soon thanks to interference from Legado Del Fantasma?

There will also be a six-woman tag team match featuring the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn, teaming with Blair Davenport. The trio will be taking on Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, and Naomi.

Plus, ahead of Cody Rhodes' big Undisputed WWE Championship defense against Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin 2024, "The American Nightmare" will be a guest on "The Grayson Waller Effect."

WWE SmackDown Results (August 23, 2024)

The blue brand got started with The Grayson Waller Effect. A-Town Down Under introduced their guest Cody Rhodes.

Waller cut Rhodes' entrance short, telling him to get in the ring for an interview. Waller also interrupted Cody's opening promo line.

Waller questioned what kind of friend Cody Rhodes was by allowing Kevin Owens and Randy Orton get beat up by The Bloodline.

Rhodes said he wouldn't be WWE Champion right now without Kevin Owens, but he's never used KO. Rhodes then turned the tables on Waller, accusing him of using Austin Theory.

Cody said the world is waiting for Theory to do something about it.

Waller then said if anyone is making a turn, it's Kevin Owens. Waller then revealed a video compling a slew of Owens' dastardly heel days.

Owens made his way out and said everyone besides Kofi deserved what they got in that video. KO asked SmackDown GM Nick Aldis to make a tag team match for tonight.

Aldis made his way out and made Rhodes and Owens vs. A-Town Down Under official.

A brawl ensued in the ring, and Owens accidentally caused Cody to get knocked to the ground.

LA Knight (c) vs. Santos Escobar (w/Legado Del Fantasma) - for the WWE United States Championship

As ring introductions began, Angel and Berto pulled Knight to the outside and attacked him. Referee Jessika Carr threw out all members of Legado Del Fantasma.

Back from the commercial break, LA Knight repeatedly slammed Escobar's head on the announce table. Escobar kicked Knight and jumped on top of the barricade to hit the double knees onto the announce desk.

Knight kicked out of a frog splash. He later hit an atomic drop followed by a discus clothesline.

Knight leaped from the middle tope to the top turnbuckle to land a big elbow drop.

Knight followed it up with the BFT for the win.

Footage from an incident between Carmelo Hayes and Andrade backstage aired. The two agreed to have another singles match next week.

All members of Legado Del Famtasma were backstage arguing. Santos got made at his faction. Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews had fun at the expense of Escobar, who vowed to sort things out next week.

Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, and Blair Davenport vs. Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, & Naomi

Belair hit a plancha on Dawn on the outside going into an ad break.

Blair Davenport got the upper hand for her team during the break. Davenport, Fyre, and Dawn ganged up on Belair in the corner.

Finally, Belair powered her way to a tag for Jade. Cargill hit a Powerbomb on Blair before hurling Fyre into Davenport.

Jade then hit a Chokeslam on Dawn. Naomi got in a blind tag and took out all of her opponents with a crossbody.

As Dawn and Fyre were double teaming Jade on the outside, Bianca leaped onto The Unholy Union on the outside.

In the ring, Naomi hit the split legged moonsault on Blair in the ring for the win.

Winners: Naomi, Jade Cargill, and Bianca Belair

The Bloodline made their entrance. As Solo was talking, the fans chanted "OTC." Sikoa said he will meet whoever wins the Undisputed WWE Championship match at Bash in Berlin 2024 between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens.

Sikoa told Jacob Fatu to give Tonga Loa his tag team gold. Solo said Jacob can't be a tag champion if he's an enforcer. The two hugged and Jacob told Solo he loves him.

The Street Profits interrupted and poked fun of The Bloodline for being an inferior version without Roman Reigns. They vowed to demote Tonga Loa by taking the tag team gold.

Byron Saxton caught up with LA Knight backstage. Knight called himself a bi-coastal champion. He's issuing an open challenge with his U.S. title at stake for Bash in Berlin.

Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa (c) vs. The Street Profits - for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Tonga Loa used his strength advantage on Montez Ford early in the match. Dawkins got the tag and hit a Sky High on Tonga Loa.

Ford hit the Frog Splash on Loa, but Tama broke up the pin. The Bloodline recovered and kept the challengers grounded before an ad break.

Dawkins ran wild once again, hitting his jumping back elbow on Tama. He hit The Silencer on Tama and tagged Ford for the Sky High-Neckbreaker combination.

Dawkins Pounced Tama and Loa into each other near the barricade. Fored then leaped over the ring post into his opponents.

Solo Sikoa distracted the referee, allowing Jacob Fatu to kick Dawkins. In the ring, Tama hit his Complete Shot for the win.

After the match, The Bloodline attacked The Street Profits, but DIY ran down for the save. They went to hit Solo with Meet in the Middle, but Jacob Fatu made the save.

Solo hit the Samoan Spike on Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.

Backstage, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens discussed their match with A-Town Down Under. Owens wanted to make sure Cody believes he wouldn't turn on him.

Outside of the medical office, B-Fab told Byron Saxton that Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are doing fine, but are very upset.

Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell went to check on Johnny Gargano.

Nia Jax was very unhappy with Michin ruining her championship celebration last week.

Nia overheard Chelsea Green and Piper Niven gossiping, accusing Tiffany Stratton of waiting for the perfect time to turn on Nia.

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens vs. A-Town Down Under

Theory got the edge on Owens early and knocked Cody off the apron ahead of another commercial break.

The hot tag was made to Rhodes, who hit a snap powerslam on Grayson Waller. Cody went for a dive on Waller, but Theory pulled him out of the ring.

When Rhodes got back in, Waller hit him with a Flatliner for a near fall.

Theory got planted with a Cody Cutter. Waller distracted Owens, preventing Rhodes from making a tag.

Cody eventually made the tag to Owens, who delivered Sentons to both Waller and Theory. He leaped from the ring apron for a cannonball on Theory.

In the ring, KO hit the Swanton Bomb on Waller.

Cody hit Cross Rhodes on Theory.

Owens hit a superkick on Waller, followed by a Pop Up Powerbomb for the win.

Winners: Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes
